THC, CBD, BCP... what the heck do they have to do with essential oils???

"Leave your drugs in the chemist's pot if you can cure the patient with food." - Hippocrates

There's a lot of talk these days about marijuana...medical, recreational, legalities...blah, blah, blah.

Everybody has an opinion. But there's no question that cannabis does have medical properties that have helped a lot of people. The reason for that is the cannabinoids that it contains.

A cannabinoid is any chemical compound that affects one or both cannabinoid receptors in the human body, CB1 (brain and central nervous system) or CB2 (endocrine and immune systems). Scientists have been trying to develop a viable synthetic cannabinoid that targets only CB2 receptors for a long time. There are 3 types of cannabinoids: THC, CBD, and BCP. The CB1 receptors are the ones that THC interacts with and causes psychotropic effects, which is why they are illegal in most states. The CB2 receptors are the ones that do not make you “high” when affected.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the party of the plant that makes people feel high when they smoke marijuana or use products that contain THC. THC resembles another cannabinoid naturally produced in our brains, anandamide, interacting with the CB1 receptors, which regulates our mood, sleep, memory, and appetite: the reason THC makes you relaxed … and hungry.

CBD, or cannibidiol, is a naturally occurring component of the cannabis and hemp plants. CBD made from hemp has a low concentration around 2-4%. If derived from cannabis/marijuana CBD has a higher concentration around 5-30%. All CBD extractions contain some amount of THC, though some are low enough to be legal in our country. It does not make you high but it does help with neurological issues, pain and more by indirectly interacting with CB2 receptors in the body. Benefits include pain relief, reducing anxiety, effective against cancer, treating seizures and other neurological issues, prevention of diabetes through lower insulin levels and promoting cardiovascular health.

BCP, or beta-caryophyllene, directly affects the same CB2 receptors in the amazing ways CBD does. Furthermore, according to the latest study, published in the journal European Neuropsychopaharmacology, scientists found that BCP given orally was more effective than injections of the synthetic CB2 cannabinoid JWH-133. This, they noted, suggests that BCP could indeed be a superior medicine than synthetics. Not to mention, it’s widely available as a food. BCP is found in the essential oils of numerous spice and food plants, including Cannabis, Rosemary, Hops, Cloves, Black Pepper, and Melissa, but the highest concentration is found in Copaiba.

Copaiba Oil won't make you high and is therefore legal. It interacts with CB2 receptors without negatively interacting with CB1 receptors. Some sources of Copaiba essential oil contain 55%, but doTERRA's sourcing enables it to contain 60%! Plus, doTERRA does more testing than any other company in the world, so you know it is free of pesticides, heavy metals and contaminants. And it is legal in all 50 states: it's not made from the cannabis plant, so will not affect drug tests.

That makes Copaiba essential oil one of the most powerful natural substances to support your body in pain management, inflammation, and many other issues that cannabis is traditionally known to support.

Copaiba is so versatile! Some of the ways to use it include:

- Keep your skin clear and clean while reducing the appearance of blemishes by adding Copaiba to your toner or by applying it directly to skin before applying moisturizer.

- Copaiba blends well with Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Frankincense, or Ylang Ylang. Using any of these oils that appeal to you, create your own personal fragrance in a roller bottle, and then fill the rest of the bottle with Fractionated Coconut Oil.

- Most of the body can benefit from Copaiba—it supports the cardiovascular, immune, digestive, nervous, and immune system. To take advantage of these benefits for any of these systems, add one to two drops to water, juice, or make your own tea using warm water and honey.

- When you’re facing a stressful day ahead or feeling worried, diffusing Copaiba’s woody scent can help calm any anxious feelings you may be experiencing.

- Take one to two drops in a veggie capsule to take advantage of the antioxidants—the substance that stops potential damage to your cells from oxidation.

- Use in a calming bath by adding two to three drops to body wash before mixing it in the water.
